Pride in Our Communities

Prima Group have noticed a growing trend in fly-tipping, littering and dog fouling in the Leasowe estate. This is not only impacting the local neighbourhood but is also affecting our schools as we have seen an increase in fly-tipping being left in and around Castleway and Leasowe primary schools within the last 12 months. The money being spent by Prima Group and your local schools to clear the rubbish is taking away from funding that could be used to serve your community better.

Prima Group's Leasowe Neighbourhood Housing Officers, Katie Jones and Toni Rooney, have met with Lyndsay McDonough at Castleway, Kim Piggott at Leasowe Primary, and Therese Malley at Holy Spirit, to discuss how we can work together to tackle environmental issues that we are experiencing in our community.

All the children and staff at the three schools are enthusiastic and excited to be part of our project, Pride in Our Communities, and they are getting involved by:

  1. Holding assemblies where fly-tipping, litter, keeping our communal gardens clean and dog fouling will be discussed with the children. They have been shown images (provided by Prima Group) of the issues we are dealing with on the estate and discussed how every resident can make a difference in keeping Leasowe clean.

  2. Children will participate in a competition to design a poster to highlight these issues. The winning entries will be displayed around the estate to encourage everyone living in the area to take responsibility for their litter and take pride in their community. Leasowe residents will shortlist finalists by completing the forms on this page. The winners will be chosen by Prima Group's tenant board members.

  3. The schools have also committed to attending a litter-picking event with Prima Group and the Rakers Football Team wearing their new kits supplied by Prima Group.

Prima Group will award all the primary schools £500 for taking part in this campaign. There will also be prizes awarded to the children who win the competition. Below is how the schools have informed us they will be spending their £500:

  • Castleway – Allotments on their school field.

  • Holy Spirit – Play equipment.

  • Leasowe Primary - Eco club, forest school and a new camera to capture wildlife.
