Prima Group host Dovecot Place Community Action Day with Local Partners

Last week, we hosted another successful Community Action Day in partnership with Liverpool City Council and Merseyside Police in Dovecot Place, bringing together residents, local organisations, and neighbourhood services for a day of hands on action and community pride.

At the heart of the day was the community group Make Dovecot Clean Again, set up by Cllr Harry Doyle with local residents. The group has become a driving force for neighbourhood improvement, with volunteers giving up their weekends to litter pick around Dovecot’s shops and streets. The Dovecot community wanted to come together and make a difference in the area, and that starts with having the area clean and tidy.

Cllr. Harry Doyle emphasises that the group’s work is not only about getting out and litter picking, but there is a commitment to educating about litter, recycling, and waste, with workshops being carried out in local schools. This was showcased on the day as we had pupils from Dovecot Primary School and NexGen Academy out in force with their litter pickers to help keep Dovecot clean. They persevered through the rain and worked across the shops and alleys to pick up any litter.

The day was strengthened by the presence of key partners including Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service, Liverpool City Council, and Prima Housing Officers. Collaboration across partners ensured that all teams had a joint approach to safety, community engagement, and neighbourhood standards, this included new signage being placed across the area to deter any future fly tipping and littering. Local businesses and residents had check-ins to catch up and hear any concerns they have about the area.

A highlight of the day was getting to see the local Dovecot mural, which has been commissioned in the last six months from a project started from Dovecot Dreamkeeping Society commissioned by artists Izzie Major and John Culshaw. We love how the mural has transformed this section of Dovecot Place, helping to keep the area around it clean means that more residents, especially children, can enjoy the art safely.

Dovecot Dreamkeeping Society was part of Culture Liverpool’s Creative Neighbourhoods programme.

We were also grateful to Alt Valley for hosting the day at Dovecot MAC, a vital community centre offering health, wellbeing, information services, and adult education for local residents. Dovecot MAC is a state of the art centre providing a gym, library, theatre, and dance studio for people in the area, as well as free adult courses for both leisure and boosting employability. We massively appreciate their help in making this day a reality.

The day was a success with customer check-ins, a full cage van and skip, showing that when communities and partners work together, the change becomes possible.

Special thanks to every partner, volunteer, resident, and organisation involved. Take a look at some images from the day below.
