53 Monday Financial Year 2024/25

What It Means For You

There are 53 Mondays in the 2024/25 financial year, from 1st April 2024 until the last Monday on 31st March 2025.

This happens every five or six years because there are 365 days in a year or 366 in a leap year, which breaks down to 52 weeks in a year plus one day, or in a leap year, 52 weeks plus two days.

Your rent is charged on a Monday, which means there is an additional charge this financial year - 52 weeks x 7 days = 364 days (one day fewer than a full year or two days fewer than a leap year).

What Does It Mean for Me?

You will not be affected if you pay your rent weekly, fortnightly or four times a week without Housing Costs assistance. In the case of monthly payments, the additional week is included in your monthly payment.

Who Does It Affect?

This will impact any of our tenants who have a weekly tenancy agreement and make monthly payments.

The Department for Work & Pensions has confirmed they will not cover the additional week's rent charge for those receiving Universal Credit.

If you pay monthly, your monthly rent calculation will be the weekly rent multiplied by 53 weeks and divided by 12 months. This will give you the monthly rent figure.

If you are on Housing Benefit, you will not be impacted by this, as Housing Benefit will cover this - they pay every week it is charged.
